sound/video interruptions in winxp.. help please?

hi all,

just hit up fry's yesterday.. 2 freakin' hours just in line waiting to pay.. it was a madhouse..
anyways, bought and installed a new mobo/cpu/ram.. but needing some help. I posted in technical help but there was basically no one browsing..

I reinstalled windows XP over the originally installation with the old mobo/cpu.. just updated the live! drivers..

system specs are
Athlon XP2100+
Soyo dragon platinum kt400
256 DDR 2700 (mushkin)
Maxtor 45 gig (7200RPM) on IDE 1
Maxtor 120 gig (7200RPM) on IDE 2
Radeon 8500 128mb
sound blaster Live! [original] platinum (updated drivers)

...and yet, when I play movies (divx or avi) and mp3s, there will be occasional ...hiccups, where the image (if there is one) stops and the sound just goes "blrrrrrrr" as if it were repeating the last .1 seconds over.. this happens most frequently with movies.. any idea as to why this might be?

I know it's pretty vague, but.. I've looked elsewhere on the web and haven't been able to find any solution..

thanks very much,

SK

You might just want to do a fresh reinstall of Win XP since the old mobo. might have registery strings still in there causing problems.

I joined the forums after reading this thread, because I seem to have the same exact problem ever since I reinstalled win xp on a new drive.

My system:
athlon tbird 800
asus a7v
256 megs crucial pc 133
system drive: 80 gig 8 meg cache wd
extra drives: 60 and 80 gig ata 133 maxtors
Geforce 2 mx
Soundblaster Live Value

I would like to note that on my old drive (ibm 30 gig ata 100) that I had no such divx audio/mp3 hiccuping. It was only after I took out the ibm (it died) and reinstalled all my system files and such on the new 80 giger that this happened. Like skc mentioned the hiccuping is infrequent but very annoying. Usually happens in the first few seconds of play and then randomly throughout. It not to the point that its unbearable, but I'd like to listen to my mp3s and hear my divx stuff without all the hiccups.

Of course I have SP1 installed and I've narrowed out the sb audio drivers as I tried using both the newer and older sb live audio drivers, so its neither of those. All my wiring is correct and I've went back in and reseated all my peripherals and made sure all my cables are in place correctly. I even reformatted and reinstalled to of no avail. My audio codecs are exactly the same ones I used on the old drive. This problem baffles me and all my friends. If anyone has experienced this problem also or have any ideas on how to fix it I would be greatly indebted. Thanks.
