Sound thru the cd drive

Well I have a Lite-on CD-RW and it has a little place in it for headphones. Now I'm assuming there is a way to listen to sound thru them rather then the computer, or is that only for CD's and such?

I've never done it myself, but I'm pretty sure it will only work if it's a CD playing in the drive.

If you want to have a connection for headphones that's not in the back of your computer, you could get a 1/8" entension cable and run it to wherever you want for easy headphone connecting (if your case or speakers don't have any sort of headphone connections)

Yeah, like DAjello said, you'll only hear sound from the CD player's headphone jack if you're listening to a CD. I've never seen a computer CD drive that had an input jack receiving sound from a sound card (or mobo's onboard sound).
BTW, you'll probably find the sound from that headphone jack to be rather weak and thin sounding. CD drives don't have any significant amplification circuitry in them, so you'll get fairly poor sound. You should get better headphone performance by using the headphone jack on your mobo or sound card (if you have a sound card).

If you want to get fancy, without spending a lot, check out the multimedia ports on this site. If your case doesn't have a headphone jack on the front or side, you can add one easily via this site. 🙂
