I was using windows meida player earlier this morning and my sound was working just fine. I later tried to load winamp and play a song and it seemed to be playing but I cannot hear anything. I checked my real player, quicktime, and windows media player to see if anything was muted, but all of the volume bars are raised. I also checked my system volume and everything except microphone is unmuted. I tried a system restore and that did not fix the problem. I also checked all of my connections for my speakers and they are all correct. My sound has never stopped working before and it has worked for years on this computer. I also went through the entire windows sound troubleshooting and it did not solve the problem.

Operating System: Windows XP Pro
Audio: VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)

EDIT: The speakers are not the problem because they work on my other computer.

Are you certain your speakers are working? Have you tried connecting headphones to the computer or conencting your speakers to an MP3 player or a radio?

Is it just winamp that doesn't play sounds, or is your sound not working for anything anymore?
