Hi, just got a few things that I need an expert (or otherwise) opinion on.
I'm looking for a new set of speakers for my pc. I've seen a couple of reviews and opinions, but sometimes the best opinions are those of fellow gamers and computer people, as the often look at things with a similar level of toughness and scrutiny.
Basically, I am looking for sound quality primarilly. I have up to about AU$250 (I think around US$100 or $120). My room is large, but furniture is in the way. I currently had a set of Cambridge FPS 1000 speakers. They are half decent, but I want something with abit more bass and sound quality. I'm a player of both games and music, and these would be the main uses for the speakers. Occasionally I may watch DVD's (I prefer my G520 to a TV screen). As far as a breakdown goes, i'd say this is about how i would use them:
DVD viewing - 5%
Gaming - 35%
Music - 60%
My preferences are mainly as follows:
1) Sound quality
2) Bass quality
3) Surround sound ability
4) Power/loudness
The room I use for my PC is large, but furniture gets in the way of placement for my rear speakers at the moment. This basicaly means they are positioned more to my side (and forward abit) the actually behind. I have a Hercules MuseXL sound card which supports 4.1 setups, but not 5.1. This means if i got a 5.1 system id have to run it without the centre channel. For these reasons, id prefer a high quality 2 speaker system to an average 5.1/4.1 system. My current considerations are (in order):
1) Altec Lansing 621
2) TDK Tremor S-150
3) Logitech Z640
I have heard mostly positive things about all of these speakers. Another set were the Klipsche 2.1's, but I think they are out of my price range.
I included the Logitech system beause, although my main concern isnt surround sound ability, it would be a cool addition, and would be good if the others are unavailiable or undesirable for whatever reason.
I have heard that the TDK's have solid sound quality, but have a relatively low powered sub. I heard the Logitech set had outstanding bass, and were great value for money, but lacked audio quality for music (especially in the mid ranges). I also heard the the 621's had excellent audio quality for music, but were slightly dull in the midrange, and that the sub at times overpowered the satellites, draining out the sound. I also heard they were very well built and had excellent sub quality.
Has anyone here heard any/all of these 3 systems? Would would you recommend (includign any others if you have a specific favorite).
I'm havign trouble findign a store in my area where i can heard each set one after the other, (or hear them at all for that matter) and so i'm not sure which sounds best.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
