Sound skipping/stuttering while playing games

My sound skips 30 seconds after starting to play a game. It just infinately loops kind of like when a CD skip. My Network cards doesnt seem to work after this happens and I have to reboot if I want to access the net.

I am able to play MP3s fine without any problems.

I'm using the onboard CMI3878 sound & a Netgear Fa310tx NIC.
I've tried re-installing the drivers for both of these.

My next step is to try and move the NIC card into a different PCI slot.

Does anyone know what may be causing this? or what I should do next if this PCI swapping doesnt fix the problem?

ok, I swapped the NIC into a different PCI slot.

This did NOT fix my stuttering sound, but now after I get the stuttering sound, my NIC card works fine.

Has anyone had similar problems? My other PCI slots are all empty. I dont know what to do next. Any ideas?

What motherboard you using? It sounds like a IRQ conflict when its accessing the network card, sound card or video. Try updating to the latest drivers, going into your bios and putting at non-plug and play. Also you can try reserving the IRQ's that your sound card and network card is using.
