Sound Recording Issues - Sound comes through line in, but cannot record it.

Hi,

I built a machine for recording live sound of a mixer. The sound card Im using is some cheap OEM card based on the C-Media CMI 8738 chipset. I'm using TDK digital mixmaster to try to record large .wav files, but have had no luck. I dont think the software is at fault, cuz this setup worked fine with my old sblive value.

The odd thing here is that I can hear the line-in sound coming out of the computer, but it doesnt seem to register anywhere else. My volume control properties dont show the decibel meter moving at all when I have this line-in sound (so of course it doesnt record it, just hiss). Ive tried many things, from recording at diff hz, trying the mic-in jack, using diff software, and am now at a loss.

My next step was going to be to buy a new, relatively cheap sound card (the Hercules Fortisimo II is looking good), and just switch them. I thought I'd first try to appeal upon my fellow Anandtecher's good graces though. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You might have already checked this, but in your Volume Control settings, go to Options, Properties. Choose Recording instead of Playback and check to make sure your line-in is checked. Click Ok and you'll be brought to the Recording Control. Adjust these settings.

I know that was what I kept forgetting on an ATI AIW card.
