Sound Recommendation

When I get a new AMD mobo, its most likely going to be an NF4 Ultra board, probably Asus with an integrated sound like Onboard Audio: Realtek ALC850 8-Ch.

I play games like HL2 and NFSU2 and things like that hooked up to a standard shelf stereo with 2 speakers. I don't have any fancy surround sound and don't plan on getting any. Plus I don't really listen to music off my computer.

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Right now.

1. Would integrated audio provide better sound for me?
2. What would you recommend to upgrade to, if anything? (between $50-$100. I'd liike to limit it to $80 max though).

Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1

No I do not have seven speakers. Never the less it is the best sounding card I have ever heard.

The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz was a great card, but if you are looking for higher quality sound; the Audiotrak will not disappoint.

Moosey, I'm in the same boat. Just put together a system with the Asus A8V MB and am currently using the on board sound. I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz from my old system and was wondering if i would get better sound from the Turtle Beach or should I just stay with the onboard sound??

Your probably not going to notice any difference at all. I definately wouldn't bother putting money into a soundcard if you only have normal 2.1 speakers.

You can always try and onboard and see if you can tell the difference.

I bet most of the games default to software sound and you can't even tell 🙂
