It all started with X-Plane. The sound would click randomly whenever the program was making sound. The only way I could get it to stop was to turn off all sounds. Microsoft Flight Simulator, on the other hand always has, and still does work flawlessly. Also, all three of the newer GTA games work fine and sound perfectly on this system.
The specs are as follows:
AMD 2500+
MSI K8NGM2-FID
PNY Geforce 6600
1 GB RAM
using onboard audio
Then I tried to play this game called JFK Reloaded. The same clicking sounds occurred there too. I figured it was just because it was using the crappy onboard sound, and I better just get a decent card if I wanted this to get fixed. So I bought a Chaintech AV-710, and guess what? I get the card installed and working, and the clicking is still there.
I tried to do a little troubleshooting, but it only made me more confused. X-Plane is OpenGL only, and FSX is DX only. So I assumed it was an OpenGL problem. Well in JFK Reloaded, there is an option to change between OpenGL and DX, and OpenGL would be smooth, and DX would have choppy sound.
The choppy sound sounds exactly the same as it does if I were to open up Reason and set the buffer too low. I made a video of my playing X-Plane with the choppiness, but my hosting is all hosed up right now and I can't log in to my ftp...
