currently i have Cambridge fps 2000 speakers.

and i was wondering if i hooked up my sony digital receiver and some cheap speakers (they are sheilded.) would it sound better than the FPS 2000.....?

btw the speaker system with the receiver would be 5.1..


ohh ya btw how would i go by hooking the receiver up to my sound card? Thanks

If you want 4.1 or 5.1 sounds for music and games, you need a sound card with 5.1 analog outputs (which will most likely be 1/8inch mini-plugs) and a receiver with 5.1 analog inputs.(usually RCA plugs) Just go to Radio Shack and get 1/8inch to RCA cables...

For movies, all you need is to hook up the receiver to the spdif-out on the sound card because the sound card will pass the undecoded signal to your receiver, which will do the decoding. (again, the same kind of cables are used)


And yes, those speakers will wipe the floor with the FPS2000, and probably all PC speakers out there. If you have a decent sub, then I'd definitely do it.
