Sound Problems With Bioshock

I have been playing this game flawlessly up until I meet the first Big Daddy. Fought him, killed him, reloaded my game because I took more damage than I should have. Well, when I loaded my game, the sound was only playing through my left speaker, rather than both. I restarted my game and the sound is still only playing through my left speaker.

After that, I closed Bioshock, loaded WMP and played music to test the speakers. As I thought, both speakers work perfectly. Loaded Bioshock again and only my left one works.

Does anyone know what is going on? I am going to restart my PC now and see if that helps, but if it doesn't, I will need assistance from someone here who may know how to fix this problem.

I have audio problems too. Bioshock seems to want to output in 5.1 mode regardless of my audio settings. I'm using 2.1 speakers but they cut out when the audio source is either behind me or directly in front of me (center channel). Doesn't matter what I set it to. I have not found a fix for this yet, and I don't really want to play through the whole game with only a partial audio experience (plasmids and guns don't even make any noise since they're normally outputted through the center channel only).

I have a 2.1 Logitech sound system and it seems that only the reloading and switching ammo types for weapons plays through only one channel. Everything else seems to be fine, but if I continue to play when the "ammo sounds" only play through my left speaker, they randomly move to just my right speaker, then back again.

I have a SoundBlaster Live! Sound Card with the latest drivers, if that helps any.

Bioshock sounds better on headphones anyway. ;)

Grab a good set of headphones and set it to output in 2.1 It's much scarier to play that way...and you can crank it up loud without pi$$ing off the neighbors.

Regardless if it sounds better through headphones, I would like to resolve this issue without resorting to getting my headphones out and plugging them in every time I want to play the game.

I do have a good headset which I use on occasion for when my roommates are asleep, but during the day, I need to be able to hear them if they call me for some reason. One of them just had surgery on his leg and if he needs something, he just calls. If I have headphones on, I won't be able to hear him.

You aren't trying to use EAX are you? The game uses EAX 5.0 which is only supported on the X-Fi. Using it on other cards results in unpredictable results.

I am not using EAX. The default was that EAX was disabled and I have yet to touch the audio options. Even with my headphones on, I still get the reloading sounds in one speaker and whereas everything else comes out of both.

Without resorting to a knowledge base, my only suggestion would be to backup your saves and reinstall the game.
