Sound Problems in Edgy Eft

I seriously Googled for a long time, and I searched these forums for the answer. I posted on the Ubuntu forums a couple hours ago too, but no one has replied yet.

I have an Audigy 2 Soundcard as well as an ATI HDTV Wonder.

In edgy it detected the Conexant Sound Chip on the HDTV wonder as the primary chip instead of my Audigy 2. I managed to get Amarok and VLC and some standard OS sounds to work, but WINE and GAIM and some others still dont have any sound support. Additionally, the mixer defaults to the Conexant device so in order to adjust the volume, I have to open the entire mixer.

Can someone tell me how to disable the HDTV Wonder (As Linux unfortunately doesn't support it) or at least change my default Sound Card to the Audigy 2?

-Kevin

Edit: I can't thank all of you guys enough for helping me out. I feel so bad for posting so much 🙁

Are you kidding, there is no way I am reinstalling this entire OS!

I KNOW there is some way to disable a device or to at least configure a default sound card.

So apparently ALSA isn't included in Edgy Eft. Because i dont have a /proc/asound directory. So now I have to figure out how to install the latest alsa, unless I can do a sudo apt-get install command.

Nevermind, ALSA is install. Why isn't there an asound directory then??

Nevermind again, after going to the directory and hitting dir it turns out it was there.

Ok I found the files I need to delete. Since I cant even use my ATI HDTV Wonder I copied the directory to a backup folder on my /home partition (In case drivers become available later on) and now I am trying to delete the directory.

In Konqueror I cant modify ANYTHING. So I went into the Konsole and tried a "sudo rm -rf card0" and yet I still dont have access. I just want to get rid of this, or at least rename it or something so it cant be used. Can someone tell me what I have to do to get permission??

You're trying to delete something out of /proc? /proc doesn't have real files on it (as in, they're not on your hard drive). It's just a bunch of info generated on demand by the kernel to tell you about your system.

Well I managed, in the Sound System properties, to redirect it to the Audgy. So now I have control over the mixer without opening it completely up. However, I still have no Start Up Shutdown sound, I still get errors in WINE (Which refuses to run), no sound in GAIM, and no sound from Firefox Apps (ESPN, MLB.com)
