when i play halflife two i can only hear the sound when i am looking away from whats talking or making sound. if i look at it or if its directly behind me it real quiet. i cant hear my guns unless i turn away. the specs are in the sig, its onboard audio, in the green jack, set to 2 speakers (which is what i have) i tried changing to headphones but that didnt work either. as far as i know it has the latest drivers. any ideas it not a big problem but its kinda annoying cause i cant hear what the characters are saying.

It could be something wrong with your 2.0speakers...or play around with your audio and speak config in the hl2 option area...you know should get a separate sound card instead of using onboard...the sounds have alot more quality in them and you don't use up as much cpu cycles compared to your onboard...just a thought....

I don't see how it could be the speakers. They have no idea where you're turned in the game. Sounds like they're just getting the surround signal instead of the front signal in hl2 (or everything as I'm trying to find out :))

For music, the Chaintech can't be beat.

Not sure on the riviera card.

SB Live would be better for surround sound, but I think the Chaintech is the better two channel card.

If you get the Chaintech, set it up using the 7/8 jack as described here.

Does this help?

The most important thing is to plug your speakers/headphones into the rear (7/8) jack on the soundcard, not the front L/R output.

Get the drivers from viaarena. There should be a setting in the control panel to use high sample rate output.
