Sound problem

I normally would post my system specs, but just click on the link in the signature and look at my system rig instead. I do have that second 30.7Gb HD drive from Maxtor, but it is devoted to Linux, not XP Pro. The problem is that I would listen to music or play DVD and I noticed a skip in mp3s (on any application) and the same goes with CDs and playing DVDs. It never happened before, but when I got this new Seagate Barracuda 7200.7, I did a fresh reinstall of Windows XP Pro (old OS used to be 2000 Pro) using NTFS like always. I figured it would do the trick, and it did: man is my computer stable (fast HD, yet just as stable as the other barracudas :D). Yet the sound still skips..but I don't really notice it in games at all. It seems like when i'm just playing mp3s, CDs or DVDs. It doesn't happen constantly, but enough to piss me off when it does. Notice that everything in my PC (including a new 350W Enermax PSU) is fairly new and they are high quality products, but the Audigy is the oldest remaining part. I haven't replaced that--could it be the Audigy? How great is the Audigy 2? I am not really in to spending $100 or so on newegg for a new soundcard anytime soon, but if it is that good (top-notch audio quality is a must, but game support should be very robust) then I will get it eventually. I would like to note that it doesn't cause my computer to crash, spontaneously reboot, or get messed up in any other way. The skip is not a long skip, but it is highly noticable (and annoying when it occurs) and the mp3s used are ones I ripped, yet also ones I downloaded off of WinMX also. If anyone has some advice or a theory, I would love to hear it!

Ensure you have the latest Creative drivers for your product, and make sure the mp3 skips occur in different decoders (aka winamp, media player, musicmatch jukebox, etc...).

If the skip does occur elsewhere, your mp3 files may be corrupted. Not uncommon with downloaded mp3s.

Also check if skips occur at same point within songs.
