sound popping/skipping

hi all. I'm not sure where to post this topic, so i decided id put it here. Anyways this issue has been frustrating me for weeks now and I'm stumped. whenever i play audio, it skips and pops for a second every 3-5 seconds. Ive re-installed/installed sound drivers, windows updates, reformatted the drive and loaded XP back on, and it still happens. Any suggestions?

i just got an amd phenom 940, gigabyte ma790gp-ud4h, creative e-mu sound card. But, i disabled the creative and ran audio off the onboard and still the same thing. i just defragged, but that didnt work. its practically a brand new comp, i dunno why it would skip.

ctrl-alt-del to bring up Task Manager, look at the process list and sort by CPU to see if something keeps grabbing the CPU %. Ignore the system idle using 99% 🙂

thanks for all you guys input, i think i might have found the problem. Easytune 6, yunno the gigabyte overclocking tool, was causing the sound to crackle and stutter. when i closed it, it stopped. wierd. well, thanks anyways guys! 😛
