Does the Sound Max that comes with the ASUS SK8V motherboard have a 5.1 decoder built into it? I see that it has the three hook ups for the 5.1 sound so I'm assuming it must be able to decode 5.1.......
 
No, it cannot decode 5.1. It has no DD, DTS or other decoding capabilities. You can use software DVD players to decode those streams into analog for your SoundMax to output though.

As far as I know, the only sound card that offers DD, or DTS decoding is the Audigy line.
 
Well i would only need the decoders if i was watching the movies right? Iff I only want to play 5.1 GAMES then the soundmax 5.1 setup should work right? Far Cry seems to work right...
