This rig is almost a month old. Everything has been running great with the exception of the hard reset / crashing while gaming. This problem happens at random times. My system will freeze and the sound will be looping. It has happened with Call of Duty 4, Soldier of Fortune 2 and Call of Duty World at War. Using the latest sound drivers listed on the Asus support page.

On a hunch / something to try I decided to uninstall the drivers for the onboard sound and disabled it in the BIOS. I installed my Asus D2X PCI-E sound card and have been gaming for a week without any hard reset / crashing problems.

I did some searching on the forums and on the Internet but I can't seem to find anyone using this board with similar problems. Is there something else I can try? Is this worthy of an RMA to have Asus look at it? I miss my front audio ports. :(

Ambient temp of the room is around 24C. My idle temps at the time of this message are

That motherboard has the ADI AD2000B onboard sound CODEC which is apparently the last one ever going to be made by Analog Devices as they have exited the business.

There some problems with Vista x64 drivers 2 years ago when it first came out but I am surprised if not all of the issues have been taken care of.

However I played COD4 on my ASUS P5N32-E SLI with the ADI AD1988B and it played and sounded great without any issues.

Now that ASUS is in the discrete sound card business I hope there isn't a conflict of interest with properly working onboard sound drivers.

I have the exact same motherboard, and the exact same problems.
At first I thought it was the RAM, so I blew $200 on a new set...

Would you recommend buying a PCI sound card and completely disabling the on-board sound?
