Sound loop game crashes

I've been crashing in my games. Game freezes and the sound loops continuously and have to reboot. It's happening both in Call of Duty and RTCW Enemy Territory. My specs are
AMD 3500+
Asus A8V Deluxe 2.0 got latest 4in1's
Evga 6800 Ultra 61.77 No overclock (tried 66.93's also)
win xp
Audigy 1 (latest drivers)
1 gig corsair value pc 3200

I've tried lowering the the sound acceleration per activision but to no avail.

I'm really baffled as I played Doom with little problems.

Any tips or suggestions. Thanks
