Sound Line-In stopped working in Vista

I have a line-in microphone that works on my XP computer but doesn't work on Vista. I checked the sound mixer, but there is no line-in or microphone volume control there. The only thing I found was "input device control" in the control panel, and there the microphone is enabled.

I'm at my wits end here - am I missing anything?
