sound issues

I am not sure if it is a driver issue or a codec issue. But the audio doesn't play right in both movies and mp3s. its like its not synced to the movie and at time is garbled. and the mp3 the voice sounds separated from the music. Its hard to described. Does it in movie player, VLC and rhythmbox. I uninstalled the restricted extras and that didn't help. The files play fine on the my other machines.

Any thoughts, I am at a loss.

Try playing around with your alsa settings. Here's a page from Ubuntu 10.x, but with a little translation you can use it on 12.x. You'll have to install gconf-editor.

An interesting development. I listen to most of the stuff on the headphones because the computer is in the living room. I started playing with the left right balance and took it to one side and it works. side it the other way and its garbled. Go figure.
