I have a dell vostro 220 using onboard sound. Orginally it was my GF's computer but she upgraded and i'm putting this to use since its better then my old rig. Anyways she was running win 7 with no sound issues, i get it and cant get sound on it what so ever.
Dells have it setup were the front has priority over the rears. I couldn't get any sound on either, sound drivers were installed correctly, the bars show sound coming out but nothing came out of the speakers/headphones.
i reformated with a clean install. win 7 32bit. ran it and no sound, installed the realtek driver thru dell for win 7 no go, installed vista driver no go. updated BIOS and got driver from realtek's site directly and no go.
at this point i completely gave up. I just wanted sound so i installed my OLD PCI sound blaster card from like 10 years ago. When i installed that upon start up i hear sound coming from the headphones which were still pluged up to the onboard sound. and right now the on-board sound works. NO driver or audio coming out of my PCI card but onboard works like it should...
What the hell just happened? I wanna pull out my PCI card to see if it fixes it but i dont want to loose sound again. it just crazy.... i thought win 7 made life easier with auto installing drivers... this pre-built dell with no add-ons other then 4gb of ram VS the 1gb stock didn't work....
