Sound Issue on XP

Today I installed Windows XP (fresh format) and everything went smooth. Got everything configured, drivers installed, a few games and my favorite apps, etc. Afterwards, I start up Ghost Recon to play with some friends. I play for a while, then close the game. After closing the game, my sound went caput. Now my sound is now very low, and it sounds like I'm in a tunnel (no bass, very echoy). I have a Creative SB Live! X-Gamer 5.1, so I went to Creative's website and downloaded the latest drivers for XP and installed them. After rebooting, the sound had not improved. I'm not sure where to go next to fix this; any help or advice is appreciated.
