I am running windows XP sp2. I am trying to run windows 98SE using VMWARE 4.5. I have tried setting it up using both my onboard sound, and my M-audio revolution sound card. I looked in the help section, and it said to use the drivers for the Sound Blaster AudioPCI. I install the drivers, and restart, and it causes windows 98 to lock up, with the error:
Error opening input sound device 0.
The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the Capabilities function to determine the supported formats.
Sound will not be available.
If I try to uninstall the sound device in windows 98, it locks up and causes a BSOD. If I go into safe mode, and remove it there, when I reboot and go back in to windows 98 normaly, it detects the PCI multimedia device and tries to install the drivers for the Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64v, and then locks up. If I then reboot windows 98 by going to power and reset from the VMware menu, windows will reboot normaly, but will disable the sound device, saying windows failed to load when starting the device, so it is perminatly disabling it. I have tried 3 different sets of drivers, and all cause the same problem.

Everything else is working normaly, I have the VMware tools installed, and I am able to access the internet. Anyone have any ideas how to get the sound working?

Can you try these drivers :
http://users.pandora.be/boran/Audio%20Drivers.iso

They work for me in VMWare 4, but the soundcard might have been changed in 4.5

File will only be online for about 7 days from now (had to delete part of my site to make room for it) so grab it while you can.

It's an iso so you can easily mount it inside VMWare on your VM.
