Sound Icon (speaker) missing in Taskbar

I just formatted and reinstalled Win 98SE prior to selling my soon-to-be-ex-computer...Finally...

Everything is nice and running smoothly, have updated everything in Windows, installed latest video drivers and Creative audio drivers. However, since the reinstall, the little Sound icon (speaker) is missing in the Taskbar, at the bottom right of the screen.

I remember from previous reinstalls that the Speaker icon was there and that I never had to worry about it.

So, how can I get it to appear in the Taskbar again?

Go into Control Panel and click on (don't remember what it was called in 98) but it is Sounds and Audio Devices on XP. There should be a check box in there that will place the icon in your taskbar.

I had forgotten to tell that I had already tried this. The check box is already checked, but the icon doesn't appear in the Taskbar.
