I was wondering with the on board sound card and even if this is possible, is there a way to hook my surround sound system to my computer?

Almost all the onboard sound setups I have seen have either 3 ports out for analog out or an optical out for DAC externally. What motherboard is it you have exactly?

It appears to have an optical out. Can't you hook that up to the receiver and pass thru surround? (Though I doubt it'll encode surround)

Plug them into your soundcard and the back of your receiver. If you need longer ones or shorter ones, they're available.

Call it a day.

Digital Optical is a pain to use. Configuration issues with different programs and game support, etc. etc. Analog is easiest.

I'm assuming your receiver has surround analog in and your motherboard supports 5.1. Most do.

OK, can't really tell you much without knowing what type of inputs are on the receiver. So at least you should be able to get Dolby Pro Logic surround off of it. Not the greatest, but I use it when the media I am watching doesn't offer anything better, and it's still more embracing than stereo.

No such thing exists. At that price point I'd get earphones.
