I have lots of sound glitches and randomn video artifacts when i overclock my cpu. 3D, OS, and other progs run fine but every once in a while my speakers would produce large spiking sounds and since i have a 5.1 system, the spiking goes from 1 speaker to another. I am using SB audigy 2. BTW, the same happens when i use my motherboard's AD1985 sound card. I tried overclocking my AGP/PCI buses, locking them at 66/33 and even left them at auto. Nothing works.

sys specs:

3.0C P4 @1.75V
Asus P4P800 D w/ AD1985 SoundMax
OCZ PC3700 Dual Channel Gold @1.85V
Audigy 2 retail

I get an extreme amount of glitching when im over 230fsb so i usually turn sound off unless im playing games. Most games run ok, but Max payne, NFSPH2 and sumtimes Unreal2k3 are horrible, especially in surround sound mode.

thnks

try better cooling on the mobo's south bridge. I have heard this helps solve a few sound issues (popping, hissing, etc) with many motherboards.

would that only work for the motherboards own sound card? or could i affect the PCI and AGP slots too?

might want to go lower on the cpu vcore?

my guess is it may be the nb/sb overheating (only i heard this specficaly iwth nforce2 boards cuz the sb's get hot!...could be wtih intel too...)

also, when ocing, always leave agp/pci locked at 66/33

yeh.. my SB temp was close to 60 degrees.. burned my finger.. i'll buy one of those thermal glue heatsinks for it
my VGA fan should be able to blow the SB enough to dissipate heat as well.

i think my cpu needs the 1.75V... cuz at 1.7 my system is unstable and the overclock is impossible at 1.65V, i mite have an mVID, never bothered checking.
i actually reached 243fsb at 1.8V, but i won't keep it like that cuz my sound crackling problem was unbearable...almost like my system would explode!

temps @1.75V are 37degrees CPU, 33degrees motherboard.
@1.7V 33/32
@1.8V 40/32

ps

thnks, locked up my pci/agp at 66/33 still hearing crackling tho..and everytime i watch movies, i would see purple dots on the screen
reminds me of the matrix

Try to stay away from more the 1.7 volts on your cpu. Raising your Core Voltage above 1.7V on a P4 is risking the health of the CPU.

wow, scary! thnks alot...hah lowered VCORE to 1.7V, w/ Asus' overvolting, i think that should be my max..
but i still hear sound glitches!! urghh! haha..
video glitches are less after i increased AGP voltage to 1.6V
