Sound from CD ROM

Hello all,

I am running an Intel motherboard with dual drive CD and DVD burners. I have disabled by onboard sound so I can take advantage of 5.1 setup with Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card. Everything works great but when I play a CD it will play but no sound comes out. I haven't installed the audio plug into the back of the cd rom so my question is, do I really have to plug that cable into the back of one or both of my drives to my sound card in order to play music??

I have read that if the drives support Digital CD playback then you don't need to connect the audio plug.

Thanks in advance

Thanks,

Do I just install it on the Master drive or both, or does it matter which one of the two drives I have hooked up to that sound card?

Last software I remembered that used that cable was WMP 6 for Windows 98.

I'm assuming you've got Windows XP, which I don't think any software anymore makes use of that audio cable. I'd search for another cause for no sound.

no, you don't need to use that cable, but not sure how to solve your problem though, i'm not much help i know...runnin Win XP i assume?

WMP 6 for Windows 98...exactly, back then with 98 you had to check something for digital playback in properties of cd-rom....if i recall....gosh, been so long ago...

Yes I am running Windows XP SP2, I'll go home and see what else I can do in order to see the problem, thanks for clearing that up about the cable. However, the sound card instructions do specify for me to plug that cable in, don't know if this still clears up that issue, thanks again.

make sure CD audio is not muted or turned down in the mixer. In fact unmute everything and turn everything up. See if thats what's wrong

Problem Solved,

Stupid Creative mixer, I had to dig at all the little menus the sound card came with and I unchecked the only play digital music box and then there was sound. Kind of scared for a minute, thanks for all your help guys
