What you guys/gals think of an 8.2 system? two sets of Klipsch 4.1's? More bass? Just curious, I came across a deal and the dorm isn't loud enough with just one set. My friend blows me out of the water w/his z560's. So what ya'll think, 2 klipsch's 4.1, or no?

Yeah, why not? They're great speakers. Just a litle splitter on the back of the sound card for both the fronts and the rears. If you've got the money, why not?

won't a splitter SERIOUSLY decrease the power to each speaker?

not really because the speakers are powered and amplification is done within the subwoofer casing, not on the sound card.

Yeah. The power for the speakers comes from the woofer, the signal comes from the sound card. Splitting the signal won't do any damage, I don't think.

It will decrease the volume of each speaker set if you use a splitter.

At one time, I had an HTPC with a splitter on a SB Live! soundcard. I used the splitter because I wanted to see my desktop on my TV but I also wanted to use my DXR2 card for the TV output.

When I added the splitter, I had to increase the master volume setting in the sound mixer panel. The power for that extra output doesn't mysteriously come out of nowhere. ;)

I'm not sure that the effect would be severe enough that it would be completely conterproductive for this purpose though.

Are you that guy who walks into his room, props the door open, puts on some crappy music, turns it up as loud as it goes, and then wanders off down the hall?
