Sound Fizzes/Crackles when turning up volume on my stereo

Is this a major problem or is it something I could easily fix. It's a great little Onkyo component stereo, Model# R-805x. Also have the CD Changer to match. Definitely worth fixing if it's not going to be too much.

You mean it fizzes/crackles when the volume is high

or

it fizzes/crackles when you're physically turning the volume knob? (and then is ok once you stop moving it)

I'm guessing the second. You might be able to fix it by removing the volume knob and physically cleaning the contacts. It may not give you access to the contacts without taking the whole thing apart tho. Even then you may have to replace that component.
