Sound extracting program?

i need a pice of software that will let me rip songs apart. Lets say i hear this song with a cool beat but a stupid voice is talkign overtop of it.. i wanna to extract the background beat but dont want the voice... what is a good program to get to do that?
I dont need a compilation program, or a mixing program i have to extract the sound clips first before i can do anything with them. Any ideas?

the file formats will either be, .wav or .mp3, even .au too, but i guess those could be converted over.

SoundForge is the only one I can think of ... it's the most comprehensive sound editing package, but that's quite a lofty task. Good luck.

yah we are using sound forge, but i was wondering if there were any other decent sound creation/extraction programs.
