I am going to be doing some recording of sounds (making a for-fun CD with my church band) through my sound card (SB Live, I know, but at this point quality doesnt matter).

What software should I use that is very easy to use, but somewhat powerful? I just need to record tracks from the line in on my sound card(I am going to pull all our music off a central reciever which is attached to our mics and guitars), and be able to save them as WAV files. Anyone know what I should use?

Are those God's recommendations? Or have you been to "most" churches? Just curious...

Well since you asked, no my KJV Bible does not specify software applications. It just so happens that we just set up a rig in our church to capture audio and we hired an expert to come in and give us a run through. The "expert" stated that "Most churches use SoundForge or DiamondCut." I did some research on the web and found those two apps to be pretty good.

You know I was just yanking your chain, right? ;) Those are both good programs, but kinda pricey for just fooling around. Goldwave only costs 40 bucks.

well... if the quality doesn't matter...
then, my vote goes to cooledit.

it's not that difficult to learn.
but quite powerful editing tool.

in all fairness, these are non-professional tools.

if you are more serious...
and have some budget,
i'd say look into Delta 1010 card/module.
it's got 8 balanced in/outs.

still, not professional level,
but as far as i'm concerned,
most people don't have studio quality speaker components to notice a difference.

at around $500.00 it rocks.
it also comes with softwares to let you do the recording...
so it's all game.

That Delta is a very solid unit. For some fairly heavy mixing, editing, everything software look at Reason--it's pretty powerful.
