Sound doesn't work on DVD's

Notebook works, everything works, sound works in every other software. Put my new Family guy dvd (first dvd I'm trying to watch on my new notebook) and it opens up on real player 10 , but no sound. All the sound preferences are on and seems to be working...
anything I need to check ?
Also , what's a good, simple , east to use dvd player software ?

WMP, WMP classic, WINDVD, NERO Showtime just to name a few

Make sure SPDIF out isn't enabled in the software and stop using real player
