Sound disappearing after boot on Win2kPro and MX300

Can someone help me figure out what is wrong?
Recently installed Win2k PRO on my Abit kt7-raid and using
diamond mx300 soundcard, and then the sound disappears after a few
minutes after bootup. (everything else runs fine).
I tried installing the latest mx300 drivers from Diamond's site, but it wouldn't install properly. Any ideas? Thanks.

The rest of the specs:
Abit KT7-Raid mobo
AMD 1GHZ T-bird
Diamond Viper V770 non-ultra AGP

I just installed win2k on my computer last week, and I had huge problems (much like yours) with my mx300. That chipset (Aureal's Vortex ones) isn't really supported by win2k, but I installed the latest ones found at www.windrivers.com. Look for the latest drivers they have for the Vortex2 chipset, and install those. They're working good for me now, but I'm still considering buying a new sound card (simply because the sound is CRAP now when I play Counter-Strike) 🙁

Hope this helps ya kenchi!

sammykun-
can u tell me exactly what you installed?
b/c i'm still having problems with my sound cutting out after a
few minutes (especially when using a program like an mp3 player or
windows media player).
I did install the aureal vortex 2 drivers (WDM5_10_2500_49.zip)
using the instructions, but STILL the same problem.
I'm also thinking of buying a new sound card b/c of this.
Lemme know...thanks

kenchi,
Those are the exact same drivers that I installed, and it seems stable...but like I said, I still have complaints. I did have those same problems that you did...winamp would fade out in a matter of seconds after playing something.

I also am using a BH6 motherboard (oldskool but cool enough for me). I think i read somewhere that it was a problem with the mx300 on a KT7 Raid motherboard with win2k...don't quote me on that though. I've been reading WAY too many articles for this measly card.

...on a side note, I'm still perusing hot deals for a good sound card deal. 🙂
