i know these things work in the car audio environment as to keep the sound inside the car and reduce the vibration of the car chasis. would these things work to quiet down the noise from my cpu fan and case fans or are they just a gimmick? would it be a better investment to just get quieter fans? i usually leave my computer on overnight and noise is becoming a big issue since the computer is right by my bed.

depends on the pitch of the fans your trying to quiet down. Ive tried akasa's deadener in two pc's...one with a 80mm svc cooler and one with a dragon orb 3 with a 7k rpm delta. With the orb, the paxmate took out most of the high pitched whine, but the pc was still louder than most could tolerate. With the svc cooler pc i couldnt descern an audible difference with or without. BTW, most of the sound deadening products will increase case temps if improperly placed.....
