Sound Dampening

Does anyone have any experience with sound dampening material for the insides of cases? Is it worth it? If so then who puts out the best and where can I get it?

dynamat (think thats the name) makes the best stuff. i know ebay has it but its mostly 50ft. you could just buy quiet fans.

If you want to do it, go to partsexpress.com and buy the super cheap stuff ($20 for 4'x5' sheet, i think) compared to whatever price that dynamat sells for the equivalent amount. All it is doing is adding extra material to the case, which 1. weighs it down causing less vibrations and 2. forces the sound to go through more material.

If it does anything noticeable, you will realize how loud your psu is. I did it because i had some left from my truck and it helps a tiny bit, but i also added a layer of foam to get the higher frequencies. All i hear is my psu, but that is on a controller so i can adjust it to my preference.

If you want to try a cheap solution you could try some rope caulk (Mortite and FrostKing are two common brands). Audiophiles used to use it on the bottom of their turntable platters to damp ringing. Just press a number of random lengths to the insides of the large panels and see what happens. Tip: Clean the insides of the panels with alcohol and dry well before applying. It'll stick better.

It's not worth it. The problem is that you can't put it everywhere in the case and so sound will still escape through the undampened areas. Also it doesn't help at all against noise from intake, outtake and PSU fans.
I would just get some quiet fans.

yup only it'll work is with so much foam you'd create a little furnace. and youd have to create mufflers for all openings. basically boxes with arangements of walls and stuff inside to make sure theres no direct way out.

that's funny, I only spent about $1.50 at hobby lobby for the foam pad w/one side sticky I used it to cover up the holes at my 5 1/4 bays (to keep my front fans from simply recirculating the air in the case and actually bring in more cool air from the front) and covered up the holes on the side panels (where the majority of my hard drive noise was coming from) I'd say it made about a 3-4 db difference, and my temps actually dropped 2C.
