I got a movie but for some reason it tries to download an audio codec when I open it and of course it fails, but the movie plays except without sound. All my other divx ones work still, but this one has a different audio codec maybe?

Download a program called GSpot to analyze the movie file, see what it says. You may need the AC3 codec, for example.

And WHY not download codec packs out of curiosity?
They screw with stuff they shouldn't. I know for the NOLF2 demo, there was a fix in the readme for those of us who had installed the codec pack and had no sound in the game. Same with Freelancer. I uninstalled it and installed FFDshow and have had great luck.

Not to mention Nimo gave me bad smearing on Divx movies I had encoded from my Bond DVDs.

AC3, DIVX, XVID ... maybe OGM .. those are the ones you really need

GSpot rules. been using it since 1.1.

another one against codec packs. Nimo screwed me up good.

I ended up just using gspot and installing codecs one by one for what i needed.

I agree.

I don't know why, but they screw up the system... you'd imagine it's a pretty easy process just gathering all the codecs, and making it all execute and install it all... but for some reason Nimo keeps screwing up my systems.

Go to your local video store with the name of the defective movie title. For about $15 they should fix you up with one that has crystal clear picture and full 6-channel surround.
