yep, dedicated sound cards aren't too necessary anymore.
once you start getting into the hundreds of $, it's time to move to an external DAC/amp setup, or receiver + speakers + TV + xbox controller

most modern sound cards have a front panel header/connector that allow you to connect them to a cases front panel audio
if the sound card you buy doesn't (unlikely unless it's an older card), you can still use onboard for the front panel and the sound card for the speakers.
