Double check the link, it isn't working for me. And are the sub and speakers separate units or a single unit?

What does your motherboard have?

Can you tell us the model number? Or better yet, take a pic of the back of your computer. Post it here.

The mobo is ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970*

Waiting on the speaker systen.

Should I just play it safe and get a sound card?

Pretty much all Motherboards come with onboard sound.
Yours has the Realtek ALC887.
They pretty much all support 7.1, and have mic in.

You don't need a sound card.
If you still want to get one, the Asus Xonar DG is a good budget card.

that's a USB microphone and doesn't require any sound card at all.

I agree with the others, you wont benefit by going dedicated sound card. Those pc speakers you linked will work just fine with the onboard sound on the Asus board. Save your money and get better speakers ;)
