Alrighty, i picked up a sound blaster audigy 2 zs platinum, and i hooked it all up, and i just reformated, the onboard sound works, and i just installed all of the drivers on the disk, and there is no sound to be had, everything appears to be hooked up, but nothing is coming out of the card. Suggestions? Card broken? Do i need to turn stuff off in bios?

Also i just got a new MSI motherboard, Kv8 neo something something. If you guys need any of that information i can tell you.

Like i said though, the onboard sound works, so perhaps i hooked it up wrong, but when i run the diagnostic, it passes all the hardware tests. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure, but I think since you have two sound devices, windows has it set to your onboard sound as the default output. I would just disable the onboard sound in the BIOS to avoid the problem.

I looked up some stuff on their website, and it said it shouldn't be in the PCI slot next to my agp card slot, so i guess i'll try to change that, i remember reading that awhile ago when i had my santa cruz card, i'll check it out and see if it works.

if you go to control panel
sounds and audio devices
then under the audio tab make sure
default playback is set to the audigy.
also it wouldnt hurt to disable the onboard sound since your not going to use it.

Still no luck, i've changed the card to a few different spots, and it says that everything is working fine, and my onboard sound is disabled, and i'm not getting anything still. Highly frustrating, guess i'll check their site for more clues.

Are you sure your soundcard isn't faulty?
Can you try another one, or try that one in another system?

In my old computer, I had horrible problems with one of the soundblaster cards... turns out that there were some compatibility issues with the video card - I had to install the drivers for the video card after the drivers for the audio card for my computer to have any sound. Took me weeks to figure it out... Not sure that that's your problem, but if you're stuck, perhaps it'll give you an idea...
