Sound card wont work

I have an external Philips Aurilium Sound Agent 2 5.1 external sound card. I downloaded a few programs for my video capture card, but I uninstalled them after deciding that the default program that came with the card is better.
However, after I uninstalled them the sound card stopped working. The little icon of it on the lower right part of the screen has a red circle with a dash through it. I emailed Philips, and they told me to call them, but I would much rather solve this problem without having to call them.
I tried repairing, then uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but it still doesn't work.

It's not muted. I've checked that several times. The card has a volume bar on it, and when I turn the volume knob on the card the bar doesn't change. It's like the software just wont let the card work for some strange reason.
Edit: When I go to sounds and audio devices in the control panel and go to the volume tab, everything under device volume and speaker settings are unselectable, eventhough the sound card is the default device for sound playback.

that red circle with the slash through it means the master volume is on mute. click the little icon on the lower right part of your screen, and make sure the checkbox near "Mute" is unchecked. if that dosent work, uninstall your sound drivers, and reinstall the latest version. uninstalling that software may have removed some of the sound driver files along with the files you wanted to get rid of.

While I don't have a volume icon on the lower right part of the screen, when I go to start->all programs->accessories->entertainment->volume control the speakers aren't muted, and I can't select the volume or the balance. Am I missing the master volume control?
I'll see if the philips site has any updated drivers later tonight.

Can you go to "options --> properties" from there?

Maybe the box to display the master volume got unchecked...

When I go to properties the sound card is selected for the default device for playback recording and other, with volume controls for everything checked. However, there is no box for master volume control.

It does sound like the drivers got borked..

Does your setup have a "use digital out" checkbox somewhere? I dont think that would cause the master slider to grey out but ya never know.

Have you tried a system restore to before you installed the vid capture stuff?

I don't see a use digital out box anywhere. I'll have to try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers again tonight.
It's weird that I can't even get into the Sound Agent 2 program.
