Sound card won't install

Hi guys

Hi

I purchased a Gamesurround Muse 5.1 last week and in spite of several attempts, I cannot get it to install correctly. I have allowed the hardware wizard to access the drivers from the net, from the disc and from a d/l from Hercules main site.

I am running Windows XP Home edition, Pentium P4 2.66ghz, 512 mb memory. The only visible problem during install is when the hardware wizard gets to the file cmuninst.dat, the system takes ages (approx 3 mins) before coming to the screen where you are asked to restart the machine. This is when the main problem occurs.....the machine gets to the windows XP loading screen and then whereas it normally goes to the welcome screen where you select the user, it doesn't! It just hangs at this point and nothing else happens.

I have completely disabled (uninstalled) the onboard AC sound both in device manager and in the bios so I do not know else I can do. HEEELLLLLPPP!

Thx in anticipation

Try downloading the latest driver for the C-media 8738 chip from the Windows Update site, then place your card in another PCI slot and select "Reset Data Configuration" or "Update ESCD" in the BIOS. This should make Windows re-recognise the card.

If this fails to work then I'd suggest a clean install of the OS.

Cheers
