Sound Card woes!

I am running a 2.26 p4 (533) on an abit BD7-II board. I am currently running windows xp professional. The problem is with my on board sound card. When i had windows 2k installed everything was golden. Under XP however sound comes and goes which is really annoying. I have tried all the different drivers out there but it does the same thing. At this point in time i dont care if it has support for surround speakers because im only using headphones. But if anyone knows and drivers or BIOS update that would fix this please let me know thanks. BTW the sound card is an Avance AC 97 (i think) ICH5 chipset if i remeber correctly

Not a fix, but a solution......disable your on-board audio and go buy a cheapo SoundBlaster 16 or similar card....it's all you need unless into hi-fi.

yeah ill probably wind up doing that but am going to get a turtle beach, something i can use later. thanks for relpy

Which BIOS version are you running?

Version AJ has a fix for multimedia devices when the
FSB is set to 533 with the Failsafe/Default Bios settings.

It would be a shame to put in an old SB card when you
have a fully functional 6.1 audio built-in.

im not sure which bios it is ill lookm next time i reboot but it is teh one that it shipped with, ill try flashing it first
