Sound Card went ker-put - need a new one

Well, as you can see by the following text document my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz failed the "hardware" check.

Test Log (text file)

I'm not too disappointed as it's been a good card since I built my first computer (way back when the Athlon 1600+ was the dookies). It's seen a few mobos, processors, etc.

Anyways, any recommendations on a good replacement?

TIA

What's it going to be used for? Any brands that you absolutely won't consider? Price range?

I used to be a hardcore gamer (BF1942, DC, etc), but I'm taking a short break from it for now...(but I'll be back).

So to answer your question;

Near term - TV (via Happague PVR-250 w/ DirecTV), DVD viewing, Streaming Audio, etc.
Longer Term - I'll be back to gaming.

Budget isn'treally anissue. I don't want to throw away money (Isaw a deal on slickdeals for another Santa Cruz for about $20A/R), but at the same time if something is head and shoulders above it I'll definitely consider it. That being said, my Z-560's wouldn't sound that much better w/ $200+ sound card, no?

For the time being I'm using the onboard audio that comes w/ the D865PERLK. I've noticed the audio bit a fair-bit into my CPU usage, but given I'm not gaming right now shouldn't be a big deal...not to mention the P4 3.0 w/ 800FSB & HT should be able to handle it ;-)

Thanks!

If you are satisfied with the onboard sound, just stick with that for now. In the future, if you feel you need a better solution, that's when you should look for another option. There may very well be something better or cheaper then.
