I recently installed an SBlive! into a friends computer (PIII @ 1GHz--256MB--G4 Ti4200@64MB--Win98SE), I took aout some generic POS to put in the Creative. He like to play the game Vietcong. Ever since I put that new sound card in, he has been gettin between 1 and 25 FPS on the game rendering it unplyable. I have disabled EAX and all that good stuff, is there anything else that would cause a sound card to interfere with FPS?

TIA

As I have experienced myself, put the card in another PCI slot. It might be sharing IRQ's and causing all sorts of havoc because of it.

I think the SB live is a great sounding card but no matter what the one I had almost always had
some sort of negative effect on my gaming to at least some degree.

I put it in the same PCI slot as the old one. But I was going to try switching the slot 2morrow when I go over and try to fix it. Any other suggestions?

Make sure the on-board sound is disabled too. What vid card does your friend have, he may need a new one. Are his mobo drivers up to date?

everything is up to date, above I posted he's got a Ti4200, no need for new card.
