I am getting ready to build a new system and have been pricing out parts. I found a MoBo that I like both with and without Audio Mobo--Asus P4B266-C. What I am wondering is should I get the sound card I want (Santa Cruz) or should I just use the onboard audio? I am also getting the Logitech Z-560 speakers so I want this to sound great. Thanks all again for the great advice. :)

yeah, get the sound card...the tb santa cruz is much better than onboard audio, and also a separate sound card doesn't eat up as much CPU cycles as onboard does.

btw, I have the ASUS P4B266-C with the TB Santa Cruz and it kicks a$$ :)

Yep the Santa Cruz is a very good sound card! Has the best driver support too! Latest drivers for windows 2000/XP and windows me are from 1/10/02! They update their drivers every 3 months if not more! Driver support is always very important!

BTW i own the Santa Cruz and use it with the Logitech Z340 2.1 speakers. I really love the sound even with it only being 2.1 speakers. I guess i could always get another pair of Logitech Z340 2.1 and have 4.2 speakers but not sure how well that would work. I just did not really want to pay $140 to $200 for speakers sense sound is important to me just not real important plus i live in a apartment.
So i think the Logitech Z340 are enough for me now and like i said could always get a second set but it may not work as well as buying a 4.1 computer speaker system. I saw they had Logitech Z540 on the internet but i did not see them sold at compusa where i brought my Z340 speakers for $50 which was about the same paying on the internet because by the time you add shipping its very close. The Logitech Z540 speakers are 4.1 but they only have 40 watts of total power i believe but it does give you 4 speakers at least vs 2. They are $79.99 on the website and soon compusa is getting them in and will be $79.99 there too. BTW does anyone really know how Logitech Z340 2.1 speakers would be if i added a second pair? Would it be as good as having 4 speakers like on the Logitech Z340 at least? I know it may not be as good as the Logitech Z560. May not even be worth it to add a second set of Z340. Please let me know. Thanks

So you went from 2.1 to 5.1 speakers on your Hercules XP Game Theater sound card? But is it better to buy 4.1 speakers or is it just as good as buying 2 sets of 2.1 speakers and making them 4.2 speakers? Or even buying 3 sets of 2.1 speakers and making them 6.3 speakers.

how did you know i went through those upgrades? anways, yes, i like my 5.1 and i'm not sorry i didn't go 4.2 or even 6.3 because i think the Klipsch's 500Watts do it justice and was easier to figure out how to hook them up. and the Hercules Game Theater XP did help in hooking up. it wasn't very hard to find out. apparently my setup is very popular.
