Sound Card suggestions

I was wondering if any of you record your own music? I am looking for a sound card for this purpose. I would also like it to use it for gaming since when I'm not playing music I am playing games.

Some people that do this sort of thing tend to get two cards since it's hard to try to find one without compromises. What kind of budget do you have for this?

What do you record from?

I would be recording from the guitar directly. I have been looking at some cards that have a set top box with jacks for mics and guitar ports.

I would like to keep the cost around a max of $500 I would think that this would be enough. If not tell me that I am out of my mind to expect a card with those features for that kind of money.

Also does anyone know any good review sites for things like this. I searched but most of what I found was really old reviews on 1980 hardware.
