sound card + receiver

I decided to use my very old HT receiver (Pioneer VSX-05) with my desktop.
Currently, I have an asus P6T mobo and use it with my headset, a Sennheiser HD 555.

If I get a sound card, will there be any benefit for me? Would the DAC on a Forte be better than the one in my receiver? Am I better off just using the receiver as an amplifier and using the sound card for processing/decoding?

If the DAC on the receiver is better, how do I get 5 audio channels to my receiver, digitally, if it has no HDMI connections? Right now, if I get a sound card, I can only hope it has a better DAC and that I can connect it via analog, correct?

Also, I'd like to know if the headphone amp in the Forte would be better than the one in the receiver. I know I can test this once I buy it, but I'd like to know before I buy it.

Would appreciate any advice.
