Getting some sporadic, although annoying, pops coming from my speakers - I'm assuming this is due to electromagnetic interference? If so, how can I reduce this?

I have an x-fi xtreme music and logitec 5.1 speakers (about $130 USD, cant remember model number)

The subwoofer is under the desk and the speakers are on top of the desk near my TFT monitors. The PC itself is sat near to a 6 outlet extension plug - are these causing and effect?

Thanks

If they aren't electrical disturbances that my old (6 year old) speakers made with stuff turning on, it's the infamous crackling problem that zagood linked:(.

I don't think the problem is necessarily the x-fi card - I had the same problem with my onboard - its not really crackling, its just the occasional speaker 'pop' even when there's no sound playing

If ot's the occasional pop, them do you know if there's some large appliance turning on when this happens? My speakers also did that with no sound with the washer turning on. I think the remedy for most people with this problem is to get a power bar ($50 says you have one) or get an APC or whatever you call those battery thingies.
