Sound Card Problem

A while back I posted about front right speaker making loud popping noises, and when you touched the volume knob a loud pop would come out of the speakers. Later I started to get weird bootup problems, where the system would sit at "Verifying DMI Pool" or at "Boot from CD" (when there was no CD in the drive). Eventually my sound card stopped being recognized by windows. Once I removed the card, Windows booted up with no issues and has yet to have any problems since. I enabled my onboard sound and hooked up my speakers, and there was no crackling or popping.

My question is, what does this mean? Is my sound card dead? or did the PCI slot died or could it be an IRQ conflict? I plan on RMA'ing the card, but I wanted to know if anyone could give me some insight on this issue.

Thanks.

i'd plug it in another computer before RMAing.
then i'd know if the soundcard is ok.
