Sound Card Problem

Sound has been cutting out completely, it seems to cut out and return at random times, I've triple-checked that all the connections are seated properly, reinstalled my audio drivers, checked my windows settings.

The weird thing is that the problem can be 'remedied' by banging on the side of my case.

Odd way of fixing something...I'm guessing that I may need to reseat my soundcard, make sure everything is grounded properly (its temporarily shorting???), or the soundcard may have been damaged when I put in my last HD.

Can anyone narrow it down for me? Know what the actual issue is?

the old banging on the side yes!!! only surpased by the removing cover and spitting in there!!!omg.
Yes by all means. shut it down ground yourself and pull card out and then carefully reinsert.

If you happen to have a spare card laying around try that also to see if its card related or system related.
you got any wires routed across the top of it or anything?are the audio cables firmly plugged into the card?

I appreciate the reply.

I have triple-checked the cables are in tightly, and I know it is not the speakers as I have tested with another type of input.

I don't know if the wiring inside or a seating problem though, guess I have to do some trial and error.

Thanks for your input though.

Try a differand PCI slot, that one may have a bad or corroded contact.
