I have a machine with onboard sound that was not very good so I installed a PCI sound card, I removed the drivers for the onboard sound and disabled it in the bios. I installed the new sound card and it works perfectly but when booting the New Hardware found screen comes up and says installing hardware and it stalls there until I kill the process. Have any idea anyone on how the fix this problem? It is no really big deal but just a annoyance.

I would try taking out the PCI card you have installed and see if it comes up still. If it is detecting your onboard, and you are able to get through it with the other card removed, let it install the drivers, then just disable them and reinstall the other card.

you may need to also disable the device in windows. if the bois really isn't diabling it, then even though the drivers aren't thier when windows starts, it will try to find them and install it. wait until it has or it gives up and the choose to disable it.

Yeah, thats what I meant, sorry if that wasn't clear. I meant disable the device in your device manager once the drivers are installed, that way it won't keep looking for them at boot.

Thanks Guys
I never thought that the stupid thing would be looking for the onboard after I disabled it. I will give it a try after a bit.

Edit== Well got it fixed thanks to you guys. I removed multimedia devices from other devices and rebooted and let it load the driver for the onboard sound then went into device manager and disabled the device. rebooted and all is well.

thanks again
